Once considered a Sacred Area
by local Tribes, The Garden of the Gods is a unique geological formation. The Red Rocks
jutting up are in dramatic contrast to the surroundings. This is definitely one of the
most picturesque area's in Colorado.
Follow I-25 South towards Colorado Springs, take the Garden
of the Gods Road exit and go west. Follow Garden of the Gods road all the way to the end,
then turn left and continue to the park entrance. There is no admission to the park. The
Park is less than an hours drive from Castle Rock, and can easily be part of a day in
Colorado Springs.
Rock Climbing is big in Garden of the Gods, Trained climbers
must register first at the visitors center. It is fun to sit and watch the climbers, but
the average visitor is warned not to attempt any climbing. I have personally been in the
park when an ambulance has had to get people with broken bones. |
